New York is a "Hispanic interest" section running
once a month in the New York Daily News. I started contributing
to VNY in its former life as a Sunday magazine and since
January '07 I sometimes write the hiddenny section, where
I tell little-known stories from Latino Nueva York.

Every-Night Fever at the Milonga:
In hiddenny's first story, I
stayed out late to discover the world of the tango social gatherings
that take place every night of the week at different Manhattan spots.
›
Leaving Wall Street:
To tell the story of how Brendan Martin left New York for Buenos
Aires, inspired by an anti-globalization documentary, I interviewed
him in both cities.

Ropa Vieja, New Owners:
The Cuban population in New York has shrunk over the last few decades,
but the number of Cuban restaurants keeps growing. I visited them
to meet those behind the counter.

Going to the Mat: My
first contribution to VNY was a cover story on New York's
Latino politicians facing off before 2005's historic mayoral election,
with some of them supporting the Hispanic candidate Fernando Ferrer
and others siding with ultimately-triumphant Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
